Hey there,
I’m Patty Sherin, I founded Mo’Brickz and I wanted to tell you why I love seniors living with dementia.
Seniors living with Alzheimer’s and dementia are amazing. They are smart, kind, funny, and they have so much to share. It breaks my heart when they are not engaged.
They’ve worked hard their whole lives, they’ve been husbands, wives, parents, grandparents… they’ve done a lot and they’ve contributed a lot both to their families and their communities.
I feel like it’s my job to say: “you’ve lived a great life… now it’s time to have fun!”
BUT, if you had asked me about Seniors 3 years ago, I probably would have said: “Oh I don’t know, they’re probably good people, I just haven’t spent much time with them”.
In November of 2017, I was invited to hang out with some residents at a Memory Care community to teach them to play with LEGOⓇ bricks … IT BLEW MY MIND!
Look what ended up happening:
I had no idea if they would enjoy this activity or not and some of them were skeptical of playing with LEGOⓇ bricks at first. But after a little time, they jumped in and enjoyed themselves!
It was so amazing that I made seniors the MAIN focus of my business (before that I was doing LEGOⓇ events mainly for companies, adults, and children).
I got to know hundreds of residents and they just melted my heart.
I feel so thankful for them and for their contributions to society. I just want to serve them to have fun now and reconnect with the world. As a huge fan of LEGOⓇ building, this tool seems to be the perfect way to do that because there is never any pressure to build. There is no right or wrong way to build and the possibilities are endless.
Not to mention, I also got to meet dozens of Senior Care staff… and they are INCREDIBLE. It doesn’t matter if they work in the kitchen or the admin office, their hearts are gold. Nobody is in this business for the money. It’s all out of love.
And that’s how I fell in love with seniors living with dementia. We always have a great time together and I feel like the luckiest person on the planet when we get to build together.
